General Description of the Sicily Villa "Daniela"

A secluded villa among olive and citrus trees, alongside the brilliance of the huge Bougainvillea set against the whitewashed walls and the blue Sicilian sky.

Few locations can boast 360° of stunning views. The property is accessed by a private road and looks out from the extreme northern tip of the island to where the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas meet. There are views across the Messina Straits to the coast of Calabria and beyond, then from Punta Faro down the Sicilian coast as far as Taormina, 50km to the south. From the main terrace a beautiful inland panorama over Lake Ganzirri completes the scene.

The Villa

The villa will accommodate a maximum of five people: there are two double bedrooms plus a further single sofa bed, two bathrooms with shower, a very spacious and well furnished living room with the fully equipped kitchen area partially divided from the main living room.

Built with an eye to local architectural characteristics and natural materials, the generous windows ensure airy and luminous interiors with traditional shutters offering instant shade

Surrrounding the villa are three terraces in all, one with pergola where guests can enjoy their meals al fresco and another with outside shower for that just-back-from-the-beach freshen up. There is also a small garden.

It is possible to start the rental week on a day other than a Monday but only with due notice and prior agreement. Mondays are preferred.

Villa Daniela - The Area

Traditionally, scholars have identified Ganzirri as the site of Charybdis, where Homer tells us Ulysses braved the sea monsters (the whirlpool Charybdis on one side and the giant octupus Scilla on the opposite shore) in order to proceed on his homeward journey from Troy.

The surrounding area is rich with testimony of ancient civilisations ranging from the spectacular and numerous remains of Greek and Roman colonies, to the opulent baroque and 19^th century palazzi and churches. The Mount Etna volcano is within easy reach while the historical city of Messina is just 8km away and the little town of Ganzirri is even closer with its shops, restaurants, cafès and general amenities.

The closest restaurant is 5 minutes walk from villa Daniela.

Nearby places of interest also include Taormina with its beautiful Ancient Greek theatre with views over the sea and the fishing town of Milazzo. Reggio Calabria and the lovely Eolian islands are reached by boat/hydrofoil.

The airports of Catania and Reggio Calabria (mainland Italy) are served by bus service to Messina centre. From Reggio Calabria the bus actually crosses the straights on a ferry. Cost of trip without car would be 18 euro (12 uk pounds) approx between bus and taxi. In any event we recommend the use of a hire car from the airport to the villa.
